Is it safe to water my flowers?

There was a freeze over night - reaching around or just below 32 degrees. I covered them for the overnight and the forecast doesnt look like we'll get another one. The morning glories and hostas that I planted look like they need water pretty bad. Is it safe to water them? It is around 36 degrees right now and high of around 50-55 degrees. If it is not going to freeze over again...is it safe for me to water them today?

Is it safe to water my flowers?
It should be, just make sure you don't water them if there is a frost advisory. It's better to water them rather then let them die from thirst. Hostas are very strong plants.

Here in Maine we had rain last night and it got around 32 degrees and our hostas are perfectly fine.

With the morning glories, just watch them carefully. If you think it's going to freeze one night, I'd cover them again just like you did.
Reply:You can water them, but wait until later. That freeze might have killed your morning glories, which might be why they look pathetic right now. You didn't say what growing zone you're in, but in many areas it's far too early for morning glories. Hostas are tough and will be able to look after themselves.

If you want to water, wait for the warmest part of the day and water only as much as necessary.
Reply:yes and the best time to water your flowers anyways is always in the evening so water them around six oclock tonight they should be fine.in the future always water your flowers in the evenings.
Reply:Water your flowers, then cover them with aluminium foil. this will insulate them from the cold weather.

it worked wonders on my tulips.
Reply:yes
Reply:Actually watering them will warm thier roots up..most are wrong here..do not water in the evening for water on the plants foilage has no time to evaporate thus causing them to get mold and fungi on them... Water is warmer than the frost and will help the plants....Here in Florida when we have a late freeze the citrus growers run thier irrigation sprinklers ALL night on thier orange groves to keep the leaves and roots from freezing..they may ice up but it actually insulates them and keeps the roots above freezing thus saving them..I garden 12 months out of the year and when we have freezes I water the hell out of my veggies before the freeze hits..this is the only time I water in the afternoon..When you water heavily before a freeze it also saturates the ground so wet that the water underneath will not freeze thus keeping the roots above the freezing point..I have my crops actually get ice on them from the water on the foilage and as weird as it seems..the ice covering the leaves protects the crops from frost, which is what kills them...IN ALL SERIOUSNESS..read the links below
