Electric Screwdriver charger?

I'm on an Electrical Installation course in college and have just bought myself an electric screwdriver to save me some time while doing my practical exam tomorrow. I took the screwdriver out of the box and pressed the button to see it in all its glory and it worked fine. then I put it on charged and it has been charging since 11:30 this morning. I tested it before my pressing the button and its not working even the indicator light is not working. Is it broke or will it not function until it has been charged fully. I have read through the instruction book and it doesnt say anything about this happening but it says it will need to charge for 12 hours before first time use but does that mean it wont work at all until that time?

Either the battery charger is defective or you may have inadvertently inserted the screwdriver the wrong way in the charger. Does the charger only allow you to put the screwdriver in one way?



Remove the screwdriver from the charger and activate it's power button. It the device does not activate at all, the internal batteries are fully discharged (or possibly an internal fuse/thermal overload device is blown).



To test:

Carefully and correctly insert the screwdriver in the charger and see if the charging indicator comes on. If not, the device is defective. If the charging indicator lights, let the device charge for at least 12 hours. Often times, the charge indicator will go out when the device is fully charged.



If the screwdriver still fails to function, return it to the place of purchase for a replacement or refund.
Reply:Something isn't right. The screwdriver should work with even a small amount of charge in the batteries. Make sure the outlet you have it plugged into is working. (Yeah, I know, basic stuff. But this is good troubleshooting. Never assume.) If nothing else, try another outlet. Another simple but important thing is to make sure you pushed the button. In other words, is there a lock to prevent the button from engaging when in a toolbox? Make sure the button isn't locked and when you pushed it that it actually activated. Other than that, take it back to where you bought it and exchange it for one that works.
