I am going to (wanting to anyway :) have arbor, or arch whatever you call it, over my sidewalk this summer. Can someone tell me some kinds of flowers I can plant so that they will grow on the arch and look pretty and summery? I have thought about morning glories but I was looking for something maybe a little more colorful or with thicker vines or anything creative and pretty! If you have any ideas, thanks for all of your input!
What types of flowers/plants are there that are viney and could grow on an arbor (arch)?
Pick a good climbing rose for your zone and combine it with a Clematis. You will get a bloom during almost all year and the combination makes a very nice display.
Reply:Wisteria or Ivy.
Reply:I would say sweet peas would be the way to go. They are easy to grow, grow fast, and have great flowers. The flowers are brightly colored, and smell sweet and lovely!! They often come in mixed colors of pinks, purples and whites, sometimes red.
Reply:clematis, hyacinth bean vine, climbing rose bush
Reply:You could try Clamatus, but you have to be careful to pick a variety that flowers more than once. I have three clamatus plants that flower at different times all intertwined. It took about 3 years before they were long enough to cover the trellis they are on, but they are very beautiful.
Reply:Bougainvilleas, do well in sunny hot places, and have thick hardy vines and bright flowers.
Reply:Go to www.springhillnursery.com and search vines. It will depend on your zone but there are some choices there for you.
Reply:Cypress Vine---it has green fern like leaves and small bright red flowers and attracts hummingbirds
Reply:Hmm here are some ideas:
moonflowers-like morning glories but open at night
sweet peas
sweet potato vine-does not flower though
climbing roses
vinca
cucumbers-might be really fun
strawberries
ivy
ok thats all I can come up with right now-GL and Happy gardening!
