"Tanging Yaman": Is this a church song?

"Ikaw ang aking tanging yaman

na di lubasang masumpungan

ang nilikha mong kariktan

sulyap ng 'yong kagandahan

Ika'y hanap sa twina

nitong pusong

ikaw lamang ang saya

sa ganda ng umaga

nangungulila sa'yo sinta

ika'y hanap sa twina

sa kapwa ko

kita laging nadarama

sa iyong mga likha

hangad ikaw ba'y

pa ring masdan

ang 'yung mukha.

I shall now attempt a translation. (Please feel free to share your translations too.)

You are my only treasure; yet I couldn't fully fathom (you) coz the beauty of your creation is but a glimpse of your greatness

I always long for you coz you're my only happiness and when I see the glory of the morning all the more I miss you, my beloved

But when I'm with people I deeply care for, I feel that I'm with you too for they are your creations; but ultimately, it is your face that I long to see.

"Tanging Yaman": Is this a church song?
No. it was originally as love song sung by Joey Albert, i think. When she got cancer and became religious...this song was made a church song because of its melody..
Reply:No, its' a proverd! Report It
Reply:Yes, it has always been a church song. Some people just mistook it for a love song because it was revived as such.
Reply:based on your translations.. it can be a church song or dedicated to the person who are important to you such as your parents. relatives or the one you love......
Reply:yup! =)

Cheers! =)
Reply:yes
Reply:Yup! Yup! We used to sing that song in a church near us even before Tanging Yaman the movie released its trailers. :-%26gt;
Reply:yes, it is. it is a song ultimately dedicated to God. the lyrics say it all. Hope this helps.
Reply:I have seen this on tv many years ago. if i'm not mistaken it was sung by a church choir so yes, it is a church song. and this song falls under the "religious praises" genre. same as "tell the world". i don't remember what is the right term for this genre but i think you know what i mean.
Reply:its not a church song although it can be a church song...
Reply:Hi Inday, got time to kill before heading for the airport. Just couldn't resist.

I'm not sure if that's a church song, more like a love song. But then again, church songs in the Philippines sound awfully a lot loke love songs. Just listen to any of Gary Valenciano's chruch songs and you'd think he wrote it for his wife.
Reply:A big Yes! It's a church song and usually sang during communion. I know it coz I was a youth choir member for almost a decade at my hometown's church. %26lt;*-*%26gt;
Reply:Yes,it is a church song. Although not played/sang in churches exclusively. Usually sang during Communion.

How about "Ikaw", which is often included in a wedding choir's repertoire? Is it considered a church song too?
Reply:tanging yaman was composed by nonong buencamino

(Dionesio Buencamino / Dionisio Buencamino / aka Dionisio Buencamino) and was the original score of a movie of the same name. released in the year 2000 it won the 49th famas award for best music.

i hear this often when we receive holy communion. since it is being played in church, i would say that we could consider it as church music.

but we need to ask a priest because there are certain guidelines that needs to be followed before being considered as one.
Reply:Because of the line "nangungulila sa 'yo sinta" (I miss you, sweetheart), it's more like a love song where a person professes longing to be with his or her loved one. Also, "kagandahan" (beauty) and "mukha" (face) connote physical features of a human being, and not necessarily used nor associated with God.
Reply:Haha, yeah, I guess it is. I hear it often when I visit Catholic churches.

A lot of mainstream songs have made it into the church. For example, "The Prayer", Gary V's "Lead Me Lord" and yes, "Tanging Yaman". I first heard it in a Catholic Church when I attended my cousin's wedding. I thought it was pretty cool. And then I heard it in mass the next time I visited. But "The Prayer" is really cool when you hear it sung in church. With the church acoustics, you could swear it could match the Bocelli and Celine Dion version.
Reply:yes, ate.
Reply:Hi, mam inday. how are you mam? i agree with sir ping mam. the song was composed and sung by joey albert and it became a church song in catholic churches especially in manila. thank you mam inday.
Reply:Yes, it's a church song. But we don't sing this in Iloilo church coz the lyrics are Tagalog ;-)
Reply:it is usually sang in the celebration of mass in our country, but it has such powerful lyrics that every one can bond with it. like for a mother and child, husband and wife, partners, etc. i love this song!!!
