Our backyard garden gets a good amount of sun. We want a plant that will climb up a small trellis about 3 feet high. We don't want morning glories. Does anyone know of any plants that worked for them personally; preferably that grow well in the Rochester, NY climate. Thanks.
Know of any good climbing plants?
Have you tried a Clematis? They come in a few different colors - purple, pink, white, and white w/ purple. I have one and it just grows crazy on our fence.

I've included links so you can see the pictures...The trumphet vines are very fast growing the wisterial takes longer to mature to blooming age. The leaves on all three are about the same.
Reply:I have 3 different vines in my yard and they are all great. The first is a trumpet vine, it is a fast growing vine that is hardy in nearly all climates. Beware, the trumpet vine is highly invasive and requires an above average amount of maintenance, but is quite worth the effort. I also have a grapevine which is great because of the fruit, and it also has a beautiful fall color(I am not sure of the type of grape). I also have a simple hardy ivy, or common ivy. This is also invasive, but is easier to care for than the trumpet vine. I do not have a green thumb and I have Been able to keep all of them for several years now.
Reply:Clematis, climbing roses,runner bean,honeysuckle
