Brushs wont spin?

Okay heres the deal my husband picked up my SD for her easter visit with us and she spilled a can of Orange soda on my cream colored carpet. My husband being the man he is "blotted" the soda up and left it {this happened at 2am while I was sleeping}. So when I got up this morning I noticed the stain in all its glory. Had him get the steam cleaner from the basement for me before he left so I could clean the carpet and...the brushes will not turn. I have tried everything I can think of and have had no sucess. Anyone have any ideas how to get them to spin again so I can get this stain out? Its a hoover
