We bought a house that has Morning Glories and while they are pretty and stuff, they are totally uncontrollable and get tangled with the other plants. They also grow into the chainlink fence and when they die, they leave their dead vines intertwined in the fence. They are just too much trouble for me to keep up with. I've tried digging them up but somehow they just keep coming back! What can I do???
How do you permanently kill Morning Glories?
Roundup. spray the petals, stems and leaves. they will die. Also put down some Amaze, it stops seeds from germinating.
Reply:They keep reseeding themselves.Take and spray them with Round up that will kill them and any other weed,so be careful when you spray.
Reply:Weed B Gone - works wonders. Just don't get it on anything you want to save!!!
Reply:It may take a few seasons to weed out all the seedlings - they are self-seeding and VERY prolific. Just pull them up in the spring before they start to flower so they don't repeat the cycle.
Reply:If you don't want to use chemicals - which may affect other plants - you'll want to cut them down before they go to seed. Begin by cutting off any flowers that have bloomed, and the resulting seed pods. Then you can begin snipping away at the vines. It will be time consuming, but you will have to cut them and pull them all out of the fence while they're still green. It will be easier to do if you cut the vines at every cross-section of the fence and pull them off in three or four inch pieces. When you've finished that, pull up all the stems from the ground.
Provided that you do this now, during growing season, you should be able to avoid having them go to seed again. You'll still want to go out in the Spring and pull up any vines that begin to grow. Or, to be absolutely certain that nothing grows there next year, you can lay down some heavy black plastic.
Good Luck :)
Reply:Keep digging out right down to the root tthen discard every little bit or the slightest bit left will re root
Reply:They're self seeding. This is going to take a few years to kill any way you do it. Basically, wick them with roundup (put roundup on a rag, wear gloves and wipe that along the fence. You'll have to do it a couple of times, because there are already seeds inthe ground that will sprout later.
