Will the seeds grow?

i put sunflower seed and morning glory seed in a cup with really wet soil. i think they might be a little deeper than they should be. a little less than 1 inch deep? will they grow? the soil is really wet because i watered it til water came out from the holes in the bottom. would that affect it? and should i put it in the sun even if it doesnt have leaves yet? maybe to dry it out a bit?

Reply:Both sunflowers and morning glories do not transplant well..it is best to put them directly in the soil..I took my morning glories and slightly "knicked" the outer shell of the seed with small fingernail clippers..then put them in a bowl of warm water overnight..then planted them the next day outside where I wanted them..that was last year..this year I haven't had to plant them along my fence line... I have thousands growing up it..they seed out quite heavily when the frost comes and have little dried balls on them when they dry up full of seeds..they pretty well self germinate after that..no need for further planting.....I simply went out when the plants dried out and run my hand over the seed pods and let them fall to the ground..come spring I simply went and turned the soil along the fence about an inch and piled the lose dirt around the bottom in a small pile and watered daily...once started no need to replant them..Sunflower seeds grow best too..soak them overnight..then plant where you want them to grow..They do not transplant very well
Reply:no need for sun today, but they need to be warm and wet. that maybe too deep for morning glorys and you should have put the morning glorys in a wet paper towels for a day or so. the seeds are hard and need soaking. morning glorys will take lot of water. as soon as the littlest bit of green pokes out put both types of plants in full sun and keep moist. if you have holes in the cups place the cup in a tray of water and the soil will soak up the water.
