personally, i think oasis with whats the story morning glory is number one, with the verves urban hymns a close second.

Without repeating bands, here's my Top 5:



1. Blur - Parklife

2. Pulp - Different Class

3. Supergrass - I Should Coco

4. Oasis - Definitely Maybe

5. Suede - Dog Man Star



Beyond those it's hard to define which bands fall under the Britpop label. If you stretch out beyond the 1994-1997 era considered by many critics to be the "official" Britpop era (many of whom consider the release of Robbie Williams' first album as the beginning of the end), things get more interesting.



If you're flexible, here's the remainder of my list:



6. Stone Roses - Stone Roses (1st album)

7. Manic Street Preachers - Everything Must Go

8. Elastica - Elastica (1st album)

9. Stereophonics - Performance and Coctails

10. Cast - Magic Hour



Oh, sorry, but this one goes to eleven...



11. The La's - The La's



Few other noteworthy bands. Some were more or less in the Britpop club, but now, 10 years later, it's so hard to say who was or wasn't. Even amongst the key players - Blur, Oasis, etc. - there are almost no similarities between those bands. Anyhow, these bands are/were all quite good around that time and probably deserve inclusion (pick your favorite album):

- Gene (actually, if I recall, Gene was on the cover of the NME at least as many times as Richey James in '95, so that must bump up their ranking)

- Travis

- Chumbawaumba (everything BEFORE their massive US radio hit, "Tubthumping")

- Ash

- The Boo Radleys

- Super Furry Animals

- These Animal Men

- Ween

- Massive Attack

- Portishead



You've got me reminiscing now. Might have to fire up some old Suede.



BTW, new Supergrass album, Road to Rouen, is excellent.
