Everyones taking this Imus thing to seriously, don't you think?

The question states it all. There are many shock jocks and shows out there on the radio that say far worse things! I am a huge fan of O %26amp; A and ROVERS MORNING GLORY. Far worse things have been said and done on these shows, and one stupid comment people flip out, whats the deal, get over yourselves

Everyones taking this Imus thing to seriously, don't you think?
You are giving the impression that racism is okay. Hate is always a big deal, joke or not.

So if you can express what you hate, why can't we? LET us blow it out of proportion. It's freedom of speech, right?

AND IT WAS A FLAT OUT RACIST COMMENT! What did you hear? It was sexist, too.
Reply:He should not be allowed to say what he said without a penalty. It's wrong. And just because there are other idiots out there saying more offensive things does not make it O.K. to say what he said.
Reply:His apology should be taken as seriously as his stupid remark. He is a man of good deeds. A lot of people hearing this broohahah won't know or understand that because they don't ordinarily listen to him, and only know what they're hearing from the media now. That's unfortunate. What he has accomplished in support of wounded soldiers, sailors and marines by raising money for the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund, helping to expose the atrocious conditions for wounded veterans in the health care system at "building 18" at Walter Reed Hospital, and getting the death benefit increased for service people killed in the line of duty, as well as his work on behalf of children with cancer, sickle cell anemia, and his fundraising for autism and SIDS research should all be included in every story about this, but no one mentions ANY of that.

It is all in what you say. If you are in a position where the public is watching, regardless of whether or not there is freedom of speech or not you have to watch what you say. That is what is boils down to. It may have been funny to him at the time but he could have kept that off the air and between he and his producer.
Reply:I agree with you. Too many people get upset over comments, when all they have to do is simply turn it off if they don't want to listen! A shock jocks job is to be funny and ..... oh my gosh ....... shocking. Imus did his job.
Reply:Nate I agree entirely- 3/4 of the people now raising stink about what Imus said would not have heard it if it wasn't broadcast/printed a hundred times by different sources other than Imus. Most of those people don't listen to Imus.

If it was so damn offensive, why are the comments being repeated by every news organization known to man?

It's Imus, 2 weeks ago he said Pu**y on the air- he's always cutting on someone- he didn't mean to offend anyone.

People need to get over themselves.

NEWS FLASH- It aint' all about you.

ADD- Anybody else see the Vols beat those girls? You missed a killer game sorta- we beat em like a drum.
Reply:He's an old brain-dead man who shouldn't have been on the radio for years. He hasn't even been entertaining for decades! Just get him off the air %26amp; let it go! Aren't the people dying in Iraq %26amp; Afganistan a LITTLE more important that this %26amp; American Idol??????
Reply:Yes it is very out of proportion

I think he is someone the press would just love to attack if they can figure out a way to
Reply:Have you ever been the butt of a joke or slammed on without warning?? Not a good feeling. Has your mama ever been called a "nappy headed ho" or that you are the pasty white son of the Michelin man? No?? Then you have no idea how words hurt. Yeah? Then the right to be angry is right there.

One smiling when another calls that one a "ho", "b*tch", *******", "ch*ink", "sandn*igger" etc is crazzzzzy. Accepting it and "turning the other cheek", ha!! Those days are over. Kicking the sh*t out of that smack-talker, out of love, is the new way to go. When those Rutger girls go to see Imoteph, I mean Imus, I hope they rip him a new one.

I have to make a small point that urban radio, movies and videos are to blame. People buy and see this all over and they automatically believe that they are familiar, run up and say things without consequence. I hate to spell a rule out but white people cannot say that sh*t. Even J-Lo can't say that sh*t!!! As Ice-T cover said "Freedom of Speech, Just Watch what you Say." Unless one is ready to deal with the consequences and repercussions.
Reply:I can understand someone like YOU not getting why others take it seriously. I personally am not. But yes, it is a serious matter regardless of anything.
Reply:Probably because these were personal attacks on students. I don't know that it was the hair or tattoo comment. However, he called the 'Ho's' and they are not necessarily adults. They are University students trying to do their best.
Reply:This isn't even about racism. It's also about sexism. These women were at the pinnacle of their sport, playing for the national championship. They should have been celebrated. Instead, they were ridiculed and degraded by a two-bit shock jock. Forget the "nappy head" remark, what right does he have to call them whores in such a public forum. Those girls gave their hearts and souls to their school and to each other in an attept to achieve the ultimate in their sport, and I feel sorry for them that this is what they will remember most.
Reply:Not everyone...SHARPTON took it WAY too seriously and the media...always open to a drama no matter how detrimental it is to society... took that and ran with it.
Reply:So, are you saying that it's okay to be an ignorant racist???
