Can you really use morning glories as a ground cover?

we just built a large pond, it has steep sides and need a quick growing ground cover to prevent errosion until the pond fills. Have started some bermuda grass, but it is slow going. Someone suggested morning glories. That or any other suggestions?

Can you really use morning glories as a ground cover?
Yes you can, but it will not work too strongly against erosion. They do not run their roots too deep. You will also have to maintain and control their "run" to ensure they stay in the confines where you want them. You could even use dark blue ones to "run" up a wall behind your pond and simulate a waterfall.

If you use too many for a quick cover, they will grow and smother each other from the sunlight. Just throw enough out and you'll be amazed how fast they can cover the ground.

Harvest the seeds at the end of the summer and you have new ones for next year. They produce literally thousands of seeds.
Reply:Try red clover--it makes a great groundcover, erosion-preventer and reseeds prolifically. It's also a good temporary solution until you know what to put near your pond.

The way you intend to use your pond is a factor in this decision, so look for plants that will not be poisonous to pets or cattle, etc. If you'd like birds to nest by your pond, consider some native water plants near the shore like basket willows, reeds and cattails.
Reply:They climb so I don't see why not. They are only good for one season though
Reply:it might work but usually morning glories need something to climb or wind around.
Reply:yes youy can use what you want
Reply:very beautiful %26amp; healthy environment, I use morning glories for crowny glogies
Reply:Hello. - Links Below.

1st Link 'Cached' purposely, for the first question.

In my opinion, the Zone of where one lives, may depend if a plant will grow well (adding with tendering the garden properly.) or not.

The last Link is for Planting Zones in the United States. I did not find Planting Zones for other Countries. More than likely, the Planting Zone Maps are there - For me to find them, is a challenge at the moment..lol

Good Luck.

Have a nice weekend. :)
