Morning Glories - How much soil do they need?

I'm going to buy (or have my husband make) some window boxes for morning glories and am wondering what is the minimum amount of soil they can thrive in?

Any other MG tips?

Thanks!

Morning Glories - How much soil do they need?
The main consideration here is upkeep. You can plant morning glories in minimal soil but to keep them healthy and thriving you would have to keep watering it like every 4 or 5 hrs, especially in hot weather.

I have grown them in window boxes and containers and they do great but they need enough soil to keep plant from drying out. I would make the window boxes at least 12 to 16 inches deep w/ same width. Use a good potting mix (not soil) and you should have no problem.Use very minimal fertilizer as that promotes more green and less flowers.

Don't let dry out or it will stress the plant and you won't get as many flowers either.

Good luck!
Reply:I just planted mine about 3 days ago in a 16 inch window seal pot. I used Miracle grow with water releasing crystals for my soil. I planted them about 1/2 inch deep. The package said 1/4 inch but that looked wrong. I have them on top of about 4.5 inches of soil. I had a landscaper tell me this was a good setup.
Reply:a box the size of a shoe box would hold about two or three plants tops...

just remember to use a good potting soil that retains water good

and don't forget to harvest the abundant amount of seeds in the fall for next year
