Morning glories again....?
I also have some bush type morning glories growing in containers - not hanging baskets, so the pots are probably larger than what you have yours in. As people have previously noted, morning glories do have an extensive root system. I would suggest taking your plant out of the basket and checking to see how rootbound it is. If roots have filled the whole thing, the plant can't get enough nutrition and the plant will start dying back. If this is the case, you have several choices: Plant it in the ground, replant it in a larger basket, or do some root pruning and then replant it in the same basket with some good quality soil. In any case, cut back the dying parts, and after you have replanted it, give it a good soak with a diluted liquid fertilizer.
Reply:Can't remember hearing of morning glories being grown in hanging planter, even the bush-type. Morning glories are grown by seed planted right in the ground. If all else fails, I would take the root ball out of the hanging pot and plant it in the ground itself. I have seen people do this before with several types of hanging planters such as impatiens and petunias -- and they have had great results.
Reply:they might need to be in the ground so the roots can spread
Reply:Morning glories have a very extensive root system. The roots can grow as deep as 6 feet. They may be root-bound in your pot, or the temps may be too hot. Hanging baskets have very little protection for the roots of plants. You could try a few things, perhaps move your basket to where it gets less of the hottest sun of the day, you could try to cool your root system by putting wet-ted moss around the basket, or re pot to a larger basket, you can do this easily by just cutting the bottom of your container out and placing the rest of the basket into another-larger one, this will give the roots more room and add protection from heat to the roots,, you can also help it along by pruning back as much as possible, this helps a great deal for the plant to recover....giving it more roots than plant, I know it is hard to do, dont really want to loose any more of your bush but it will come back in mass!..........god Bless

Reply:They do not have enough room for the roots. If you put them in the ground they will reseed themselves every year.
Reply:Once these morning glories are established they need an awful lot of water as in water every evening try that and see if they don't pick up after a few days ( in the fall make sure you pick the seed and you can grow them year after year
